Obituary for Vera I. Smith

Vera I. Smith, 99, of Mifflintown, passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Bridges at Brookline.
Born on December 15, 1918 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Amelia (Varner) Hepner. On May 23, 1936 she married her late husband Carl E. Smith, with whom she was blessed to share more than 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 26, 1999.
Surviving are a son; Carl D. Smith, of New Germantown, 2 granddaughters, Carli Kline and her husband Scott, Grace Misiti and her husband Nino, 4 great-grandchildren, Kelsey Kline, Chiara Misiti, Kai Misiti and Mattingly Kline.
Four brothers, Norman Hepner, Raymond Hepner, Harvey Hepner, Emory Hepner, and two sisters, Mary Losch, and Ruby Price, preceded her in death making her the last of her generation.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church where she took care of the bulletin board at the church for many years.
In earlier life she was employed by the McAlisterville Cannery and later was a seamstress for L. Shellenberger Shirt Factory, but for most of her married life she was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Vera had a gift of artistry, crocheting hankies, doilies and making jewelry to sell; however, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January22, 2018 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall Street, McAlisterville with Pastor Jennifer C. Heikes officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Johns United Methodist Cemetery, Cocolamus.
A viewing will be from 10:30 a.m. on Monday, until the time of service at the funeral home.
