Harry "Sonny" Dunn Jr.
Harry E. “Sonny” Dunn, Jr., 78, of McAlisterville, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on October 12, 1939 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County he was a son of the late Harry E., Sr. and Jane (Varner) Dunn. He was preceded in death by his second wife Esther “Sis”(Casner) Dunn and is survived by the mother of his children Diana (Fawver) Dunn.
Surviving are his children; Penny A. Dunn and her companion Lee Shrout of New Oxford, Rod Dunn and his wife Jen of Middleburg, Scott Dunn and his wife Karen of Oriental, a sister, Anna Mae Peoples of Mifflintown, 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Weikert and her husband Cliff, Ashley Parr, Natasha Dunn, Marisa Dunn, Jordan Dunn, Scott Dunn, Jr., Taylor Dunn, Jayda Dunn, and 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tristan, Brody and Gracie.
Mr. Dunn was a 1958 graduate of East Juniata High School, a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church and the NRA.
In earlier life he was a self-employed contractor and worked for several area building contractors after which he served as Superintendent of Rural Affairs for the Dept. of Agriculture.
Harry was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, tying flies, spending time on the mountain and being a gunsmith. He had a green thumb, which showed in his love of gardening and tending to the family orchard. Being a sports enthusiast, Harry participated as a bowler in several bowling leagues, loved NASCAR and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall Street, McAlisterville with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.
A viewing will be from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, until the time of service at the funeral home.
