Obituary for Thelma L. Haas




Thelma L. (Shirk) Haas, 93, of McAlisterville passed away at 3:57 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Richfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 20, 1925, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, she is the daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Davis) Shirt. On July 20, 1943, she was married to Palmer E. Haas with whom she was blessed to share more than 72 years of marriage before his passing on February 4, 2016.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ehrenzeller, Marcus Haas and his wife Stephanie, a daughter in law, Ruth Ann Haas, all of McAlisterville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Lynn Shirk of Mount Pleasant Mills.
In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by one son, Lester E. Haas; two brothers, Cecil and Zane Shirk; and one sister, Ruby Goodwin.
She was a homemaker and attended Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.
Her hobbies included taking pictures, sewing, and gardening however; her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Jodi Strawser officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
