Obituary for Donald E. Husler Sr.



Donald E. Husler, Sr., 87, of Mifflintown, passed away at 11:11 PM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on November 8, 1931 in Philipsburg, Centre Co., he is a son of the late Oscar Edward and Mary Anna (Waring) Husler.
On June 6, 1951, he was married to his late wife, Alma E. (Brackbill) Husler, with whom he was blessed to share more than 67 years of marriage before her passing on January 22, 2019.
He is survived by his children, Donald “Red” Husler and his wife, Cathy, of Mifflintown, Stephen H. Husler of Port Royal, Thomas S. Husler and his wife, Pamela K., and Julie A. Rodgers and her husband, Rich, all of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Beatrice Bowman of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Thurman Dale Husler and his wife, Robyn McCall Husler, of Clovis, CA; many generations of nieces and nephews; ten grandchildren, Jason Husler, Matthew Husler, Erin Leach, Derek S. Husler, Jared K. Husler, Lance A. Husler, Abigail Saxon, Andrea Husler, Bridget E. Malinoski, and Mary A. Rodgers; and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Husler, Joshua Husler, Adrian Husler, Chasen Husler, and Ethan Husler.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Marjorie Fritz, Leona Sura, Hazel Kilmer, and Carol Jean Husler, and one brother, Thomas Oscar Husler.
Mr. Husler was employed and retired as a Machinist’s Assistant at Standard Steel in Burnham.
As a member of the First Baptist Church in Mifflintown, he served in many capacities to his church including as an usher and a greeter, as a deacon, and participated on various committees through the church. He also served in the prison ministry for over thirty years, served as a board member for Child Evangelism Fellowship of Juniata County for over fifteen years, and took care of the church’s bus maintenance. Don and his wife also supported the missionaries through the church, especially when they came to town, with a place to stay and great food to eat. He will long be remembered as a missionary to the missionaries.
Don loved to tinker with cars, enjoyed reading and was known to make a friend with anyone he talked to, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2019 from the First Baptist Church, 23964 Route 35 North, Mifflintown, with Pastor Ronald Shupe and Pastor Caleb Hanna officiating. Interment will follow at the New Church Hill Cemetery in Port Royal.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the church.
