Obituary for Helen E. Woods



Helen E. Woods, 100, of Hershey, was called home at 5:25 PM on Monday, September 2, 2019.
Born on August 15, 1919 in Mifflintown, Juniata Co., she is a daughter of the late John S. Sr., and Olive (McCans) Yetter.
She is survived by her brother, James I. Yetter of Mifflintown; grandson, John Hendricks of Scranton; great-grandchildren, Brian Hendricks and Jacqueline Penvose of Georgia; nieces, Gayle Smith and Debbie Schlegel; and nephews, John Woods, Gary Yetter, and Robert Hale.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Woods; daughter, Shirley Hendricks; sister, Nellie Hale; brothers, John S. Yetter, Jr. and Paul M. Yetter; and a niece, Joyce Yetter and a granddaughter, Debbie Penvose.
Mrs. Woods was a former employee of Bell Telephone, Hershey Hotel, and retired from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy where she worked as a communications operator with over 25 years of service.
Her memberships included Mount Calvary Church of Elizabethtown and also she was a 50 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hershey Chapter 509.
Helen rejoiced in her faith and loved her family and friends. She always had a fun and loving spirit and was very passionate about table games. She also loved driving from an early age until she was 96 years young. Recently, she celebrated her 100th birthday and had a wonderful day with family and friends.
A special thanks to the staff at Homeland Hospice, Greenfield Senior Living, and her beloved friend, Iris Heinl who helped give great care and love to Helen during her recent illness.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, beginning at 12 Noon at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with Pastor Jonathan Witmer of the Mt. Calvary Church in Elizabethtown officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 12 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
