Obituary for Thelma V. Cupp (Haines)



Thelma V. Cupp, 91, of Thompsontown, passed away at 11:42 AM on Wednesday, February, 12, 2020 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.

Born on December 2, 1928 in Delaware Twp., Juniata Co., she is the daughter of the late Lester C. Haines and the late Geneva (Meredith) Haines Watts.

On April 16, 1947, she married her late husband, Robert L. Cupp, with whom she was blessed to share over 51 years of marriage before his passing on March 26, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Michael R. Cupp and his wife Debra of East Salem and Diane L. Houtz and her husband Gerald of McAlisterville; one sister, Shirley Eichman of Mechanicsburg; one step brother, Larry Watts and his wife Helen of New Oxford; one step sister, Mary Gabbard and her husband Roger of Thompsontown; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a step father, Keemer Watts, Jr.; and two brothers, Lester C. Haines, Jr. and Harold Haines.

Mrs. Cupp was a 1946 graduate of Thompsontown High School. First, she was employed at L. Shellenberger and Sons Shirt Factory in McAlisterville and next was employed and retired as a Nurse’s Aide at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.

Thelma was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Thompsontown. In earlier life, she enjoyed helping with the Juniata County Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed gardening, but the greatest joy she had was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She will long be remembered for her caring spirit and her ability to help family and friends in need.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Pastor Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at the Maze Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the funeral home.
