Obituary for Erich V. Vogel

Erich V. Vogel, 99, of Mifflintown, formerly of West Seneca, NY, passed away at 6:45 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown.
Born on February 15, 1921 in Wurzburg, Germany, he is the son of the late Valentin Vogel and Anna Maria (Firsching) Schmitt.
On May 3, 1975, he was married to his late wife, Rose (Kopliner) Vogel with whom he was blessed to share over 30 years of marriage before her passing on March 13, 2006.
He is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Renninger of Mifflintown; one son, Karl E. Vogel and his wife Margaret of Blasdell, NY; one step daughter, Barbara Peck of Dunkirk, NY; and one step son, Frank Kopliner and his wife Philomane of Plantation, FL; three granddaughters, Heidi R. Kauffman and her husband Johann of Port Royal, Holly D. Renninger and her companion Todd Snook of Mifflin, and Kathy Vogel of New York; three step grandchildren, Kate Kopliner, Carrie Ann Kopliner, and Warren Peck; seven great grandchildren, Trent Brenneman and his wife Shelly, Shanna Hart, Devin Hart and his fiancé Jenna Sieber, Kyra Kauffman, Lane Snook, Hayden Peck, and Logan Peck; and one great-great granddaughter, Kinsley Bogus.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Frank Schmitt; one son in law, H. D. “Butch” Renninger; one step son in law, Stephen J. Peck; one step grandson, Michael Peck; and one great-grandson, Kail H. Kauffman.
Mr. Vogel was employed and retired as a composing room foreman at the Buffalo Evening News in Buffalo, NY and was a past president and activities director at the West Seneca Senior Center, West Seneca, NY.
Erich emigrated from Germany to the United States when he was 10 years old in 1931 and honorably served in the United States Army during World War II where he was a Purple Heart Recipient for his valor.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating. Military burial honors will be accorded and will follow the Graveside Services.
