Obituary for Helen M. McKee
Helen M. McKee, 86, of McAlisterville (Bunkertown) , went to be with her Lord at 10:27 PM on Friday, March 27, 2020 at her residence.
Born on January 16, 1934 in Monroe Township, Juniata County, she is the daughter of the late John H. and Hattie M. (Sausman) Miller. On July 6, 1956, she married her late husband, Donald A. McKee with whom she was blessed to share more than 54 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 12, 2010.
Surviving are: two children, Andrew S. McKee and his wife Lynn E. of Fort Valley, VA and Lori M. Alderfer and her husband Kenneth L. of Bunkertown; She was the beloved “Mimi to her six grandchildren, Rachel Phelps and her husband Lee of Juneau, AK, Jenna Bradley and her husband Ethan of Lebanon, Aaron Alderfer and his wife Katelyn of Richfield, Adrienne Perez and her husband Andres of Mifflintown,Caleb McKee of Fort Valley,VA and Myriah Alderfer of Juneau AK, , two special great grandsons, Grant and Nolan Alderfer with one due in July 2020.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Leach and two brothers, Richard Miller and Harold Miller making her the last of her generation.
Mrs. McKee was a 1951 graduate of Fayette High School in McAlisterville where she and her classmates formed a close bond that continued down through the years.
Her employment included working in her early years as a telephone operator in Harrisburg, Florida, and McAlisterville before it went to dial telephones. She was employed until her retirement at the Sausman’s Insurance Company in Thompsontown.
She was a lifelong member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren where she actively participated as a song leader, Sunday School teacher, and a Janitor for many years. Also, she held monthly L.T.L (Loyal Temperance Legion) meetings for school children, teaching them to abstain from alcohol and drugs. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. (Woman’s Christian Temperance Union).
Helen and Don loved the simple things in life: sitting around a campfire, camping at Kettle Creek, gardening, canning, taking pictures, planting flowers, and visiting their siblings and other family members. They were dedicated in raising their two children, and cherished the time spent with their grandchildren.
One of her favorite bible verses that she shared was Psalm 118:24, “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” She would want all of us to keep a song in our hearts in memory of her.
A Public Memorial Service is being scheduled and will be announced later.
At this time, all services are private with Pastor Wes Stahl officiating and interment will be private and take place at the Goodwill Cemetery in Bunkertown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. McKee’s memory may be made to the Faith Pre-School at the Bunkertown Brethren Church, 52 Bunkertown Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
