Obituary for Melvin E. Arnold

Melvin E. Arnold, 92, formerly of Richfield, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on January 1, 1930 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, he is a son of the late Harry A. and Dorothy L. (Leister) Arnold.

On March 7, 1952, he married his late wife, Esther May (Leitzel) Arnold, with whom he was blessed to share over 49 years of marriage before her passing on April 19, 2001. On July 27, 2003, he was married to Evelyn (Attinger) Snyder Arnold, with whom he was blessed to share over 13 years of marriage before her passing on January 5, 2017.

He is survived by his children, Stephen W. Arnold and his wife Denise of Cabot, Ark., David H. Arnold and his wife Judy of Millerstown, Philip E. Arnold and his wife Linda of Richfield, and Deborah L. Angelo and her husband Frank of McClure; eight grandchildren, Daniel Arnold, Lori Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Stephanie Hackenberg, Bethany Zechman, Jeremy Shambach, Blake Arnold, and Aubrey Arnold; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie F. Amey of McAlisterville; one brother, James L. Arnold of McAlisterville; his step children, Raymond L. Snyder of Mount Pleasant Mills, Barbara Ann Feltman and her husband George of Richfield, Carole P. Eppley of New Oxford, Grace A. Feltman of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Allen Ernest Snyder of Colorado; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Julia Hackenberg; one brother in law, Richard Amey; and one sister in law, Carol Arnold.

Melvin was a 1947 graduate of Fayette Township High School in McAlisterville and honorably served our country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Arnold was a 50 plus year member of the Richfield Mennonite Church and later in life was a member and attended St. Peter’s Community Church, Millerstown.

He first began working as a John Deere Mechanic for Eli Graybill in Evendale; next, he was employed as an Electrician for Lehman Strawser; and finally retired from Kauffman Farm Supply in Mount Pleasant Mills.

His hobbies included being an avid reader and a student of the Bible.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Richfield Life Ministries Church, 167 Church St., Richfield with Pastor Brittin Stimeling and Pastor Aaron Benner officiating. Interment will follow at the Richfield Union Cemetery where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Church.
