Gary E. Dunn, 81, of Reedsville, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born on September 15, 1938 in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late D. Orville and Esther M. (Worrall) Dunn. On August 5, 1967, he married his surviving wife, Jane H. (Pecht) Dunn with whom he shared more than 53 years of marriage.

Surviving are three daughters, Jayelene (Geedy) Williamson and her husband Ronald, Kayelene (Geedy) Sunderland and her husband Donald, all of Reedsville, Gay Renee Dunn of Jacksonville Beach, FL; a brother, Robert O. Dunn of Honey Grove; two grandsons, Chad D. Sunderland and his wife Kelly and Carson E. Dunn; and two great grandsons, Noah Sunderland and Tanner Sunderland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen E. “Sis” Parson, Sandra I. “Sandy” Sherlock and one brother, Lynn E. Dunn.

Mr. Dunn was a proud veteran of the United States Army and retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator for road construction, having worked for many various construction companies.

He was a member of the Siglerville Congregational Church.

Gary loved Penn State football, NASCAR, and in earlier life, hunting, and fishing; however, he cherished the time he spent with his grandsons as “Pappy.”

All Services will be private from the Siglerville Congregational Church with the Rev. James A. Yoder officiating and where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veteran’s Council. Interment will take place at the Salem Cemetery in Siglerville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Dunn’s memory can be made to the Juniata County Veteran’s Council, P.O. Box 1, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown.

Gary never treated Kayelene or me any differently than our youngest sister, Gay, who is his biological child. He taught me to tell time, ride a bike, drive a car, and took me for stitches. Bought me my first car when I was 16. He was a good man.

A dad isn’t defined as the man who makes the child, but rather a man who extends his hands and time to help raise the child and gives his heart and love to the child!
